Carlos Gray is a name that is just beginning to circulate around recruiting circles and there is a reason for it. The Christchurch School athlete has been turning heads in Christchurch, VA for quite a while. Now, he’s turning heads nationally with his hardnosed, bruising play on the field.
At 5-foot-10 and weighing 210 pounds, the versatile Gray is being recruited as a defensive back, linebacker, running back and even at wide receiver. He’s an intriguing prospect who was able to visit Penn State and Maryland this fall for games. The Nittany Lions have clearly caught his eye.
"Penn State I think is very interested in me," Gray told FightOnState.com. "They have shown the most interest out of my schools recruiting me."
As of right now, Gray says that Penn State is sending him the most mail with NC State a close second. There’s good reason for this as this past fall, Gray helped spearhead Christchurch to a 7-3 record and an appearance in the semifinals of the state playoffs. He earned a first team nod for his play at linebacker and a second team distinction at running back.
And an athlete who says that a school’s academics is very important to him – he wants to study either law or psychology – is intrigued by Penn State.
"I'm really liking Penn State," Gray said. "It would be great to play for Joe Paterno and wear navy and white in my college career."
Gray is also hearing from Richmond and Maryland in addition to the aforementioned Penn State and NC State mail. He has sent his junior highlights out to 19 programs this month.
