Maryland native and former UConn commit helps the Nittany Lions fill a key need at safety. He announced for PSU at his high school Wednesday afternoon.

Through December and early January, there was significant discussion on how coaching changes might impact Penn State's Class of 2011.

As it turned out, of course, rumors that head man Joe Paterno was so ill that he'd have to retire after the 2010 season were false. And after interviewing for at least two head-coaching positions, defensive coordinator Tom Bradley remained in Happy Valley.

The PSU staff is the same today as it was last November. And yet the Nittany Lions' Class of 2011 has been impacted by coaching changes -- those at other schools.

Wednesday, Maryland safety Adrian Amos became the latest prospect to de-commit from another school following a coaching change and then ultimately pick the Nittany Lions. Amos was committed to UConn before Randy Edsall left for the top job at Maryland.

Amos re-opened his recruitment, he narrowed the field to Penn State, West Virginia and UConn. He made an official visit to Happy Valley last weekend and announced for the Nittany Lions from his high school -- Calvert Hall College -- Wednesday.

Safety is was a key need in this class, and Amos helps fill it. John Wallpher was on hand at the press conference and will have more on the commitment shortly.

Amos is the 16th and -- presumably -- final member of Penn State's Class of 2011.
