Lions to DT: Be Our Valentine

Penn State is the latest heavy hitter to offer the highly touted lineman from Indiana. What does Valentine have to say about the interest from the Big Ten program?

Four-star Edwardsville (Ill.) High junior Vincent Valentine is officially on Penn State's radar.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound defensive tackle has picked up 16 offers, including one from Penn State Thursday night

His reaction?

“I was really happy,” Valentine said. “They have a great tradition and a great coach.”

Valentine has had contact with PSU assistant coach Larry Johnson, and he likes what he has seen so far. “He seems like a pretty straightforward, getting-after-you type of person,” Valentine said. “I like that because that is how my [high school] coach is.”

Valentine is a standout track athlete for Edwardsville. Because his track season has already started, he hasn't planned any visits for this spring. “I am keeping all the schools that have offered even until I can visit,” Valentine said.

Even though track is delaying his visits, it's making him a better football player.

“Track helps me out with my strength,” Valentine said. “It all just helps me get prepared for football. In track we do a lot of running and speed drills.”

So far he has been on unofficial visits to Wisconsin, Illinois and Oklahoma, but he said, “I have no real standouts.”

While he has no favorite schools just yet, he does have something to say to the Nittany Nation: “I am happy I got the offer. And I will definitely be considering it.”
