Four-star OG Patrick Destefano's recruiting process is quickly coming it's end. The Dorman HS standout will announce his commitment to the school of his choice Monday, May 23rd at 3pm.
The cat is out of the bag that the standout OG will announce his college decision on Monday. But originally, the Spartanburg, S.C., native planned on doing things a little differently.
"Monday was supposed to be released as a top-7," Destefano said. "With a surprise commitment but the secret was leaked."
That's about all that has been leaked about Destefano's decision, he has reeled in nearly 15 offers -- But hasn't released even a single list of his top teams.
Destefano's secrecy has made his announcement an intriguing one, by keeping plenty of heavy hitting schools, like Penn State, in it till the end.
But how high on his list are the Lions? Destefano visited State College earlier this year, and left impressed with PSU Football.
"It is amazing," Destefano said of Penn State. "It reminded me of App State in that it is a school that is tucked within the mountains."
But the scenery isn't all he liked.
"For it to be such a big college, everything is so close," Destefano said.
And what about the football?
"The history and legacy of Penn State is the biggest draw," Destefano said. "Also the elite level of education and the notoriety of being a state college alum."
Even though Destefano admits he likes Penn State, he is remaining very tight lipped -- even about his favorites until Monday's announcement.
Although what school he will attend isn't for sure, one thing is. His future college will have Destefano's services early, because he's been prepping for college football for years.
"I decided that I would graduate early way back freshman year," Destefano said.
Destefano will enroll a semester early, in January of 2012, thanks to his rigorous academic load, and one special person -- his father.
"My Dad is an ex-pro," Destefano said. "So it's in my blood."
Another thing he gives credit to his dad for is teaching Destefano how to work hard to accomplish his goals.
"I couldn't play little league ball because I was over the weight limit," Destefano said. "So my dad worked with me behind our shed with offensive line drills. I've done those same drills ever since then, every day."
And that hard work is paying off, because not only is Destefano one of the top OG prospects in the country, he was named Thursday to the Marine Corps All American team.
Add that honor too his upcoming announcement, and DeStefano is "So excited."
The only thing that is left for Destefano, is to announce the school he will spend his college years at, a decision that he says his father has given him invaluable help with.
"Go with your heart." Destefano said of his fathers advice.
And on Monday, he will.
