Frazier Hits it Big

Penn State's junior guard is named first-team All-Big Ten despite the Nittany Lions' last-place finish during the regular season.

Penn State may have finished tied for last place in the Big Ten with a 4-14 conference record. But junior guard Tim Frazier has still been recognized as one of the best players in the league.

Frazier, who enters the postseason as the Big Ten's second-leading scorer and pacesetter in assists and steals, was named first-team All-Conference by the media and second-team All-Conference by the coaches.

He was the only Nittany Lion to be selected by the media and coaches, who each pick three teams. There is also an honorable-mention list from both groups.

Frazier enters the Big Ten Tournament second to Northwestern's John Shurna in scoring in conference games. Shurna checks in at 20.0 ppg while Frazier is close behind at 19.6.

Frazier is tops in assists (5.6 per) and steals (2.4 per) in league play.

On the season, Frazier leads Penn State in scoring (18.6 ppg), assists (6.3), rebounding (4.8) and steals (2.3). Frazier's 194 assists are a season record for Penn State.

The Lions scored 676 field goals during the regular season. Throw his own buckets and assists, Frazier had a hand in 393 of them.

PSU junior forward Billy Oliver, who has decided to end his career following a series of head injuries, won a sportsmanship award for the Lions.

Penn State is the 12th seed for the conference tourney and opens play Thursday against No. 5 seed Indiana. The action in Indianapolis is slated to tip at about 2 p.m. and will be carried by the BTN. Recommended Stories
