FightOnState.com is pleased to introduce Greg Pickel as a new recruiting reporter.
A native of Middletown, Pa., now residing in Centre County, Pickel's duties include writing updates and profiles on Penn State football and basketball recruiting, conducting video interviews with prospects, and interacting with the FOS community via our popular TAP forums and occasional recruiting chats.
“It's great to have Greg on board,” FOS editor Mark Brennan said. “He already boasts extensive experience in online, print and even broadcast journalism. We believe having him on the ground in Happy Valley will be a significant plus for the site and that his age will be a bonus when it comes to covering young athletes.”
The 19-year-old Pickel is a fast-rising talent on the Pennsylvania sports journalism scene. He has previously served an internship at the Pulitzer Prize winning Harrisburg Patriot-News and continues to do occasional freelance writing for the newspaper. He has also done freelance work for the Middletown Press & Journal.
Pickel's online resume includes work with PennLive.com and StateCollege.com. And, since last fall, he has served as a producer for the Pennsylvania Sports Network, a radio show syndicated across the Keystone State.
“This is a great opportunity to join the Fight On State community at a time when Penn State recruiting is entering an innovative phase under new head coach Bill O'Brien and his staff,” Pickel said. “I look forward to interacting with the FOS community, staff and FoxSports.com recruiting team to continue and hopefully improve the site's strong recruiting coverage.”
Pickel began generating recruiting updates for FOS in March. He is moving into the position previously held by Beth Long, who was promoted to a regional recruiting position by FoxSports.com.
Pickel joins an FOS and FoxSports.com recruiting team that includes Long, East regional recruiting analysts Bob Lichtenfels and Brian Dohn, Midwest analyst Allen Trieu, Ohio field reporter Bill Green and Mid-Atlantic field reporter Kristen Kenney.
