Bill O'Brien provided a variety of updates on the Penn State squad at the Coaches vs. Cancer golf event Friday. Get an update here. Video of O'Brien talking about the QB decision is included.

With Penn State in the off-season stretch, Bill O'Brien took time at the Coaches vs. Cancer golf event to talk about his Penn State squad. Here are the highlights:

• He named Matt McGloin the starting quarterback for the 2012 season with Paul Jones as the second-teamer. Rob Bolden is still with the squad at this stage and running third team.

"He was the most consistent guy throughout the spring," O'Brien said of McGloin. "(He) has good command of the offense at this point. He's a tough kid. He's a competitive kid. He showed good leadership qualities. I just felt like he's the number one quarterback."

• CB Curtis Drake and DE Shawn Oakman are no longer with the team and he made it sound as if it was a final decision on both players. He gave no reason on why Drake is no longer with the team. In may Oakman plead guilty to a summary harassment charge.

Devon Smith is still with squad and O'Brien is waiting for Smith's legal situation to play out. Smith was hit with misdemeanor drug possession charges in the spring.

"I'm gonna let the legal process play out a little bit," O'Brien said. "There's two sides to every story. I stand behind Devon Smith. I think at the end of the day we'll see what happens."

• Running back Curtis Dukes is back with the squad after taking a break from drills last spring. He was focusing on academics in the spring.

O'Brien also stated that he anticipates that he will release a preliminary depth chart Tuesday to illustrate where the various units are heading into the preseason practice come August.
