Penn State released its summer depth chart Tuesday. You can check it out below.
There are some significant changes from the spring.
On offense, Adam Gress, who played left tackle during the spring (including the Blue-White Game), is listed at right tackle. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman Donovan Smith, who battled with veteran Mike Farrell for the right tackle spot (and won it), is now listed at left tackle.
Are the Nittany Lions really going to go into the season with a redshirt freshman protecting their quarterback's blindside?
This depth chart also has the starting offensive guards flip-flopped from where they played in the spring game. John Urschel was on the right side in the spring but is listed as an LG now. Miles Dieffenbach played on the left and is now listed at RG.
Also at guard, veteran Mark Arcidiacono is listed as an either/or start with Dieffenbach, even though he was held out of contact in the spring due to a foot injury and has no serious game experience.
The first team O-line in the spring game. Note Gress (58) is at LT and Smith (76) is at RT.
Over on defense, Kyle Baublitz, who was a backup defensive end in 2011 and during the spring (including the Blue-White Game) is now listed as a defensive tackle. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman Anthony Zettel, who played D-tackle in the spring, is now listed as an end.
Michael Mauti is listed as a starting outside linebacker despite being held out of contact during the spring while recovering from a knee injury. No surprise there. He is a proven commodity.
In the secondary, sophomore Adrian Amos is listed as a starting cornerback. FOS is projecting Amos as a starting safety. When we spoke with Amos at Penn State's Advanced Skills Camp Saturday, he said he was not sure where he would play in the fall. He played both corner and safety in the spring game, but only saw first-team reps at safety.
