Walker Steps Up His Game
Ricky Walker made a name for himself at Penn State's Advanced Skills Camp. The Class of 2014 defensive tackle from Bethel High in Hampton, Va., said his day could not have gone any better. “Today was a pretty good day, there were a lot of great coaches here and I got better working with Coach J (Penn State defensive line coach Larry Johnson),” Walker said. He claims offers from Virginia Tech, Old Dominion and North Carolina, but said he's not worried about having a just a few offers so far. “It's so early in my process that I want to just go out and compete and keep learning and keep getting better, and I was surprised with how much fun I had today,” Walker said. The6-foot-1, 260-pounder said the PSU staff said it would like to see him work on his quickness. “One of the biggest things for me is better foot speed, and Coach J and the other coaches gave me some tips for how to improve that,” Walker said. “There are a lot of good coaches here that gave me a lot of tips on that and some other things, and I can't wait to use them throughout the summer.” Outside of the techniques he learned, Walker said visiting his first Big Ten campus was a big plus, too. “There are a lot of good Big Ten lineman in the NFL, and Penn State has produced a ton of them, so this is a great place to be and I like what I saw of the campus,” said Walker, who toured the football facilities after camp. “Penn State is a top 10 school and one I want to learn more about, and the coaches said they really like me, so I want to stay in touch with them, too,” he said.
