During a week where the NCAA placed an open-season on Penn State players, the Nittany Lions added Brennan Franklin, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound inside linebacker from Arizona to their Class of 2012.
Franklin, who plays for Centennial High, grabbed 101 tackles and 11 sacks as a junior at linebacker. As a senior he pulled down 104 tackles and 1.5 sacks and was an All-State selection.
As Franklin's father explained, "Penn State called and ask Brennan if he would still be interested in playing at Penn State. He said yes, and that was about a week ago. Since then they have sent the offer and Brennan leaves this Friday."
According to Scout Southwest Analyst Jason Jewell, "Franklin is very physical, is more of a two down backer at the next level because he doesn't do as well in pass coverage as he does against the run. I think Franklin could bulk up and possibly be a DT."
He held a variety of D-1AA offers and also an offer from Toledo.
