Iowa CITY, Iowa - Aaron White called it unacceptable. He and his Iowa teammates played a lackluster first half here Saturday night and trailed 20 at the intermission.
Hawkeye Coach Fran McCaffery considered screaming at his team in the locker room. Instead, he played it cool.
"We knew the situation and that we needed to pick it up," White said.
Iowa clamped down defensively on visiting Gardner-Webb, holding the visitors to 18 second-half points in a 65-56 win.
"They dictated things in the second half with physicality; their aggressiveness on both ends," Gardner-Webb Coach Chris Holtmann said.
White and Oglesby paced Iowa with 13 points apiece. Adam Woodbury added 12 and Devyn Marbl 11 for the winners. White pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Hawkeyes improved to 4-0 on the season.
