Uplifting Athletes, which was founded by former Nittany Lion Scott Shirley, is an organization that helps college football programs raise money and awareness for the fight against rare diseases. It rose out of the annual Lift for Life Challenge Shirley and his Nittany Lion teammates began to aid in the battle against kidney cancer.
Shrive has done incredible work on behalf of Lift for Life and Penn State's chapter of Uplifting Athletes the last few years. He has already raised nearly $70,000 for the fight against kidney cancer, including about $32,000 last year alone.
With one more Lift for Life Challenge remaining -- it is slated for early July this year -- Shrive hopes to push his career total raised to more than $100,000.
Shrive, whose uncle has kidney cancer, said he and his teammates are happy to help however they can.
“For me, it makes me feel wonderful,” Shrive said. “There are new kidney cancer treatments on the market and I'd like to think we are a reason for that.”
