Penn State led Purdue 21-7 at Beaver Stadium Saturday when it was faced with a third-and-7 from the Boilermaker 8-yard line.
True freshman QB Christian Hackenberg faked a handoff to RB Zach Zwinak then bootlegged right. In the meantime, fellow rookie TE Adam Breneman leaked out and popped open in the flat.
Hackenberg hit Breneman at the 5-yard line and he dragged a defensive back toward the end zone. Breneman stretched out and put the ball over the goal line for his first career touchdown.
It was a big moment for the dynamic freshman duo. They both committed to Penn State during their junior year in high school. And they both stuck with the Lions after the program was hit with NCAA sanctions.
They were — and are — the most high-profile members of their recruiting class. In a lot of ways, they also represent the future of the program.
We caught up with both of them after Saturday’s win to talk about the touchdown and much more. Check it out above.
