The Nittany Lions have seen an increased interest in season ticket sales since hiring their new head football coach.

Upon being named Penn State's 16th head football coach Saturday, James Franklin made a bold prediction. Next season, he expects 107,000-seat Beaver Stadium to be packed for every game.

Asked about the prospects of his team playing before 90,000 people -- which is actually 6,587 below PSU's average home attendance in 2013 -- Franklin corrected the reporter and said, “107,000 from here on out. That stadium will be sold out every single game from here on out.”

Franklin can take solace in knowing that the buzz leading up to his hire and the subsequent announcement have already led to increased ticket interest for the Nittany Lions.

According to Jeff Garner, assistant athletic director for ticket sales and service, Penn State received 150 inquires about new season tickets from Friday through Monday morning. He explained that typically, people who take the time to make such inquires usually end up buying between two and four new season tickets.

“So we are anticipating this initial interest could result in 300-500 new season tickets and expect interest to continue to grow this week,” Garner said via email.

Penn State began offering season ticket renewals online in December, which according to Garner was “much earlier than in past years.” He reports that there has been a “small spike” in renewals since last Thursday.

Traditional invoices for renewals will be mailed later this week. But the final deadline to retain season tickets for 2014 is not until March 1.

Garner added that people looking to upgrade their season tickets must make the required Nittany Lion Club donation by Feb. 1.
