Wimbush Pledge Makes Super Tuesday for PSU

Four-star quarterback Brandon Wimbush of Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep ended his recruitment Tuesday by announcing his commitment.

Rather than wait until the end of the month to make a decision he was ready to announce, four-star quarterback Brandon Wimbush ended the drama.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder from Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep announced his decision moments ago that he is committed to Penn State.

Wimbush planned to release a top five late last week, but he held off on it But it was pretty simple on why he had Penn State high on his list.

"Having a relationship with coach (James) Franklin, and his energy, just excites me," Wimbush said. "I feel like everything around that program is energetic and everything is improving. They're going to come along and be a dominant program in the Big Ten."

Wimbush is a dual-threat quarterback who recently showed well at the Elite 11 in Ashburn, Va., and earned an invitation to The Opening after a strong showing at the Nike Football Training Camp in Florham Park, N.J.

He was also considering Ohio State, Miami, Virginia Tech and Boston College, and recently told Scout.com he was in consistent contact with the Nittany Lions' staff.

"I'm staying in contact with them and (building) a great relationship with them," Wimbush said.

Scout.com rates Wimbush the No. 15 quarterback in the 2015 class. He possesses above-average arm strength, shows good touch on the deep ball and is able to pick up big chunks of yards with his feet when a play breaks down in front of him.

Wimbush is the third player from New Jersey to commit to Penn State in the 2015 class, and the second from North Jersey. Three-star offensive lineman Steven Gonzalez of nearby Union City (N.J.) High and South Jersey four-star receiver Juwan Johnson of Glassboro (N.J.) High are also in the class.
