Penn State got a big boost in the recruiting front Saturday.
The Nittany Lions picked up verbal commitments from Haddonfield, N.J., Paul VI Cass of 2015 receiver Irvin Charles just moments before Pittsburgh Woodland Hills Class of 2016 four-star running back Miles Sanders offered his pledge. This shortly before the start of a summer camp session at PSU.
"I'm Officially a Nittany Lion, First Commit of 2016 #107kStrong #PSU" — Miles Sanders tweet
Corners coach Terry Smith led the way on Sanders' recruitment, which kicked into gear with the new staff when it visited Woodland Hills back in January. There, it got to see the 6-foot, 195-pound hard-charging back in person.
Receivers coach Josh Gattis, meanwhile, continued to pursue Charles despite the Lions seemingly being closed up at receiver. A spot opened up, though, and the Lions were there to pounce in and grab the 6-4, 210-pound pass-catcher's commitment over 19 other offers, including a handful of SEC programs.
Fight On State will have more on each prospect's decision later Saturday as well as updates on the Lions' second to last camp of the summer.
