William, who describes himself as a traditional dropback quarterback, is the younger brother of former Penn State quarterback Wally Richardson who played for the Nittany Lions in the 90s.
"He's working up there at Penn State right now as one of the academic advisors for the team," William said of his elder brother. Wally, who is second in career completions (378) at Penn State and who still holds PSU records for completions in a season (193 in 1995) and completions in a game (33 verses Wisconsin in 1995), has had nothing but good things to say about Penn State. The Nittany Lions, however, have not yet called the younger Richardson this month.
"Not this month, but I've received mail from them."
William is interested in Penn State. Would he classify his interest in the Nittany Lions as high, medium or low?
"It's probably about medium right now, the same as every other school that I'm interested in right now."
According to William, college coaching staffs like both his armstrength and decision-making abilities. Several teams have called this month.
"Memphis, Maryland, USC (South Carolina), Clemson and Duke."
Of that group, the Tigers are the only team that has offered him a scholarship.
"I have scholarship offers from Clemson and S.C. State and I've gotten a verbal offer from ECU."
William surmised that Maryland, USC and Duke may also be close to offering.
He claims to have no favorite at this time and is unsure whether or not he'll live out his college career in-state.
"I want to go out of state moreso, but I guess it's kind of up in the air right now."
Richardson has not yet had the opportunity to check out some out-of-state schools.
"I haven't visited any schools, but I've been to a couple Clemson games and USC games."
Right now, William is concentrating on his senior season. Sumter is 4-0 right now and Richardson estimated that he has thrown for approximately 7 or 8 touchdowns and over 600 yards.
