Paul Cianciolo
, a big quarterback prospect from South Carolina, made a verbal commitment to Penn State this weekend during an official visit. Why did he choose PSU? What did the Nittany Lion coaching staff say they liked most about him?
Name:
Paul Cianciolo
Position:
QB
Height:
6'4 1/2"
Weight:
218 pounds
40-yard dash:
4.7
School:
Dorchester Academy, St. George, SC
Despite the bad weather, Paul and his parents were able to make the journey to State College this past weekend for Paul's official visit. It was the trio's first trip to
Penn State
.
"We had one flight cancelled, but we ended up catching another," said Paul. "We were late, but we ended up getting there.
"It went really well. Actually, I committed this weekend."
The Cianciolos arrived at Penn State at around 5:30PM. Later that same evening, Paul, who admitted knowing prior to the visit that he was going to commit, told both Jay and Joe Paterno the good news.
"They were really, really happy, real excited. They're really excited to get me up there. They feel that I can be a real part of some national championship teams coming up here soon."
Coach Bill Kenney was recruiting Paul for Penn State. What did the Nittany Lion coaching staff say they liked most about Paul?
"Good feet, strong arm, a good head, leadership's big."
Some of the current players Cianciolo mentioned spending a lot of time with this weekend included
Chris Ganter
,
Zack Mills
, and
Paul Cronin
.
"They were real good guys. We really had a good time."
What were some highlights of the weekend?
"Just seeing all the stuff at Penn State, the stadium, the complex, the campus and stuff like that. I really liked it.
"Nothing beats Penn State, the tradition, Coach Paterno and contending every year for a Big 10 championship and a national championship. They were down a little bit this year, but they have some guys coming up and they'll be playing pretty good pretty soon."
His parents also enjoyed the weekend.
"They really had a good time. They really like Penn State."
Paul chose the Nittany Lions over at least two other Division I-A schools that he declined to name.
"I had a few [offers], yeah. I'm just not going to [name them], I mean it doesn't really matter now."
Paul was on his way to Myrtle Beach. He will participate in South Carolina's North/South All-Star game.
"We have practice all week and the game is the 13th of December."
