Wide-Receiver Jumps At PSU Offer

Virginia wide-receiver
Kevin Cousins
, another in a long line of Huguenot High School football prospects, has accepted a scholarship offer to play for Penn State according to Huguenot head coach Richard McFee.
Name:
Kevin Cousins
Position:
WR
Height:
6'4 1/2"
Weight:
190 pounds
40 Speed:
4.4 seconds
Hometown/School:
Huguenot HS, Richmond, VA
Kevin Cousins
is yet another big-time prospect from Richmond’s Huguenot HS, where Richard McFee has completed 16 years as head coach. Kevin becomes the fourth player from Huguenot to head to Happy Valley during McFee's tenure, following Eric Sturdivant, Marcus McFee and Bruce Branch. McFee has sent 49 players onto Division I football programs, 169 players onto full scholarships and 6 players to the NFL.
When did Kevin get the offer?
McFee told us, “We got there Friday night. We stayed Saturday for the Nike combine. We stayed in Altoona and then came back Sunday morning for the junior day. Sunday when we got there, they offered him.”
McFee continued, “They already know him. He was in (football) camp last summer. They wanted to take a good look at him in the combine. At the combine he ran 4.4 and ran a 4.1 pro shuttle. They tell me in the one-on-one stuff, he defeated everyone that was checking him.”
Had anyone else offered Cousins?
“Kevin had been offered by Harvard, Yale,
Northwestern
and
Michigan
. He’s 4.2 academically and 1250 on his boards. He doesn’t go to Huguenot. He attends Richmond Community High, which is an accelerated school. He plays for me because he lives in our attendance zone.”
Kevin also competes in track and runs the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles, long jumps, triple jumps and runs the anchor leg of the 4x100. Coach McFee commented on his evolution from track to football. “He’s a track star. When he first game to Huguenot he was a track guy who wanted to play football. Now he’s a football player who runs track.”
Cousin’s junior stats aren’t overly impressive (12 catches for 283 yards and 2 touchdowns) but his potential is. McFee told us, “He is the second coming of
David Terrell
. David Terrell played for me also. He played at Michigan and was a first round draft choice of the Chicago Bears. He has the same attributes David had. Great hands, great speed, great academics and he knows what he wants out of life. He’s a very intelligent young man and he’s going to make Penn State a great football player.”
What did
Penn State
like about Cousins? “The size, the speed, and the fact that he’s going to be there for five years or four years, whatever, because of the academics.”
Why did he pick Penn State?
“He picked Penn State because he wanted to play for Coach Paterno. If it’s Coach Paterno’s last 5 years, and you just don’t know, but if it is, he wanted to be a part of it.”
