Philadelphia St. Joseph's Prep linebacker
Steve Quinn
became Penn State's third verbal commitment this recruiting season when he called Joe Paterno on Friday and told the legendary coach that he wanted to accept the scholarship offer the Nittany Lions extended to him a few weeks ago.
Name:
Steve Quinn
Position:
OLB
Height:
6'3"
Weight:
210 pounds
40 Speed:
4.52 seconds
Hometown/School:
Philadelphia, PA (St. Joseph's Prep)
Steve Quinn chose the
Penn State
scholarship offer over offers from
Syracuse
,
West Virginia
,
Pittsburgh
and Delaware.
Notre Dame
was a team Steve liked growing up, but an offer from the Fighting Irish never materialized.
"I just didn't feel like I was going to get a scholarship from [Notre Dame] and I didn't want to lose Penn State," said Quinn. "Penn State was probably my number one choice anyway, so I just went with Penn State."
What ultimately made him choose Penn State?
"Just the opportunity to play for Coach Paterno, and I really like Coach Vanderlinden. I like the school. I visited twice and I got to see the campus and meet some players (
Dan Connor
and
Paul Posluszny
). I liked it there."
"I did want to make kind of an early decision. I put it off a little bit because of the season. I wanted to concentrate more on the season. I just thought it was time to get serious and commit, so that's what I did.
According to Quinn, the Nittany Lion coaching staff is most impressed with his speed and ability to make plays. This is Steve's third year starting at linebacker. He also plays wide-receiver on offense. Steve had 2 catches for approximately 40 yards in Sunday's victory over Brooklyn's Poly Prep.
