Lions Secure Verbal No. 2
Ogbu

Penn State has landed its second verbal commitment for the Class of 2006. Ollie Ogbu, a 6-foot-3, 320-pound defensive tackle from Milford Academy in New Berlin, N.Y., chose the Nittany Lions while on an unofficial visit to Happy Valley Friday.

“He committed to Penn State,” said Milford coach William Chaplick, who made the trip with Ogbu. “It's a done deal.”

Milford is a prep school with a history of producing major college football players. Following the 2004 campaign, it sent a dozen athletes to Division I schools, including Miami, Syracuse, UCF, UConn and Iowa.

The school held a combine last weekend and coaches from 14 D-I programs showed. Ogbu, who attended St. Joe's by the Sea High on Staten Island in 2004, was one of the stars of the show. He ran a 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds and bench-pressed 225 pounds 20 times.

Chaplick said Boston College, Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue were all showing interest in Ogbu. But Penn State landed him before any of the other schools could make serious headway.

Ogbu is at Milford to get his academic house in order. He will receive his high school diploma in December, and will enroll at PSU next January.
