An arthritic right shoulder causes 28-year-old former Nittany Lion defensive lineman to call it a career.

Is there a better place than a golf course for someone to announce their retirement?

Veteran Indianapolis Colts defensive end and former Penn State standout Brad Scioli did just that Friday, taking the occasion of PSU's Ninth Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Tournament to tell FightOnState.com he's hanging up his cleats.

Scioli, 28, dealt with an arthritic right shoulder the last two seasons.

“I've been in a lot of pain the last couple years,” Scioli said. “I'm happy that it's over. But I'm going to miss the Sunday action.”

Scioli played at Penn State from 1994-98, redshirting due to injury in 1996. The Colts made him a fifth-round pick in the 1999 draft. He played six seasons in Indianapolis, logging 121 tackle and 15 sacks in 80 game.

Scioli revealed his decision to retire during a short interview with FightOnState.com Friday. He had just finished driving a bucket of balls. In the interview, he also talked about the tournament and PSU's recent celebration of its unbeaten 1994 football team.
