UNIVERSITY PARK, PA , June 8, 2005 -- Penn State Football Lift For Life[sm] will host its third annual lifting challenge on July 15, 2005. Seventy-six Penn State Football players, including fan favorites like Michael Robinson, Alan Zemaitis, and Tamba Hali, have volunteered to compete. Proceeds benefit the Kidney Cancer Association.

The main fund raising event, which is open for the public to watch, is the Lift For Life strength and conditioning competition during which the squad breaks into teams of four and competes in a series of 11 challenges. The events range from more traditional exercises like bench press to more extreme challenges like the 200 lb plate carry and giant tire flip. Since it's founding nearly two years ago, Lift for Life has raised over $51,000 for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney cancer. This year, the organization hopes to eclipse last year's total.

Competition is scheduled to take place on July 15 from 2-9 p.m. in Holuba Hall, which is located in the Penn State Football complex. A donation of $10 for an individual or $25 per family will gain fans admittance as well as provide them with an opportunity to meet and get autographs from the members of the Penn State Football team.

Founded by Penn State Football teammates in 2003, Lift for Life continues to build awareness, and raise money for, the Kidney Cancer Association. This cause was selected when the football team realized that four player's fathers were battling kidney cancer and observed that there was a lack of funding for this disease due to the minimal response kidney cancer has to standard treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation.

The Lift for Life organization is a group of dedicated student-athletes and volunteers that are committed to promoting awareness and raising funds for charities that aren't in the national spotlight. Lift for Life also provides these student-athletes a way to combine the popularity of intercollegiate athletics along with the principles they learn through participation in sports to make a difference in the community.
