Penn State received its third verbal commitment for the Class of 2006 Monday when defensive tackle Tom McEowen of Neshaminy (Pa.) picked the Nittany Lions, according to’s Bob Lichtenfels. McEowen had narrowed his list to PSU and Florida before opting to become a Lion.

Tom McEowen (6-4, 270, 4.9) established himself as one of Pennsylvania's top defensive tackle prospects by amassing 89 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, five sacks, and two forced fumbles during his junior year.

McEowen received a scholarship offer from Penn State shortly after attending a Junior Day in early April. Since then, his stock has skyrocketed, and he claimed more than 20 offers.

He made a second unofficial visit to Happy Valley earlier this summer with former teammate Kevin Kelly, Penn State's highly touted freshman place-kicker, and enjoyed meeting the current Nittany Lion players and coaches. Larry Johnson recruited McEowen.

New Jersey quarterback Brett Brackett and New York defensive lineman Ollie Ogbu were the first two players to commit to Penn State for the Class of 2006. They did so in May.
