With all of the hype surrounding Dan Connor and Paul Posluszny, redshirt junior Tim Shaw has become something of a forgotten man in the Penn State linebacker mix. Which is just fine by Shaw.

“That's cool with me,” he said. “I'm the hard-working boy from Michigan, and I'm good with that. … I love my role.”

Shaw's role is starting middle linebacker, a job he held for seven games last season before being replaced by the true freshman Connor. Now Connor has been shifted to OLB, and Shaw, the fastest player in the 'backer corps, is the expected No. 1 in the middle.

An All-America running back at Clarenceville High in Livonia, Mich., 2004 was Shaw's first season as a linebacker. He came through with 50 tackles and an interception while logging 449 plays. At 6-foot-1, he has bulked up to 233 pounds in the off-season to prepare himself to absorb the pounding middle linebackers take.

How does Shaw feel about all of the publicity Connor and Posluszny are receiving? What's it been like transitioning from running back to linebacker? And where does he think the PSU defense can improve in 2005?

He discussed all of these things and more in a recent interview with FOS. The Q&A took place after the Lift For Life.
