Kevin was the only underclassmen selected as part of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fabulous 22. He is one of the best quarterback prospects in the state of Pennsylvania and has already heard from several major Division I schools.
Kevin has begun the process of visiting schools in which he is definitely interested.
"I haven't been to any junior days, but I went to Michigan two weeks ago on a Tuesday," Kevin said. "I'm going up to Penn State tomorrow (Wednesday) and I'm going up to Virginia next Wednesday."
He is taking the day off from school today to return to State College for an unofficial visit.
"I'm going to see a practice. I just talked to the coaches and they've been saying that they want me up. I was actually going to go up for the Spring game, but they said they wouldn't want me up there then because there are too many people and they wouldn't get to talk to me as much. I guess at Penn State, they get like 60,000 at their Spring game. They said they wanted more of a one-on-one with me all day so they said that I should just come up for practice, so that's what I'm going to do.
"I'm going to meet with Coach Ganter, Coach Bradley, and I guess they set up a meeting with Coach Paterno and Coach Jay Paterno. My dad was in a fraternity with Bradley and he was really good friends with Coach Ganter because he played up there. So, they're really close and talk about old times and stuff. I'm going up there around 1:00. Practice starts at 3:30."
Kevin will be attending the Nike Camp at Penn State on April 21. He still may attend the Blue-White game as well.
He took an unofficial visit to Michigan last month.
"Michigan went really well, it couldn't have gone any better. We run basically the same type of offense that Michigan runs. The coaches watched my film and they said that I would just be a great fit for Michigan and they would do anything to get me to be a Wolverine. Coach Carr said that I remind him of Brady because I'm a competitor and just the way I go about my business. I went to a practice up there on a Monday and the next day I spent the whole day on campus with those guys and I talked to the coaches. I talked to Coach Carr and their quarterback coach for a while.
"They said 'we definitely want you up here and we're going to offer you', so I take that as an offer."
McCabe has one written scholarship offer, from Virginia.
"Some schools have said to me that I have an offer at any time if I want it."
Those schools include Penn State, Michigan and West Virginia.
"Coach Ganter told me that anytime I'm ready to commit I have an offer. Penn State definitely said that gave me an offer.
"NC State called and they said that they're pretty close to offering me."
Does Kevin have a favorite?
"I don't have a favorite. That list, Michigan, Virginia and Penn State, those would be my early favorites. West Virginia is still up there. I went up to West Virginia and met with Coach Rodriguez and Coach Gibson about a month ago. Iowa writes a lot, Boston College, Tennessee, that's really about all. Other schools just write, but those are the ones that I'm really eyeing."
Kevin plans to attend a Michigan camp this summer for one day. He will also attend a summer camp at West Virginia this summer with his team.
Will the coveted quarterback make an early decision?
"I was thinking about it the other day and I am probably going to like to make my choice before schools starts."
