U-M: Quick Game Recap

Posted Oct 15, 2005

This game was a tale of two halves. What started out to be a quiet game in the first, seeing only three points scored by Michigan, transformed into a second half that saw a combined 49 points scored.

Though Penn State rolled up 51 more yards on offense, its two turnovers came back to haunt it in a game that literally went down to the final second, a second that Michigan coach Lloyd Carr convinced the referees to add onto the clock late in the fourth quarter.

Michael Robinson ended the day going 19 for 34 for 239 yards, no touchdowns, one interception and one fumble. In terms of the receiving game, freshman Jordan Norwood pulled in four passes for 63 yards (15.7 yards per catch). Sophomore Terrell Golden was a surprise target, catching three passes for 74 yards (24.7 yards per catch).

On the ground, Tony Hunt rolled up 102 yards on 14 carries (7.3 yards per carry). Robinson ran for 67 yards on 17 carries (3.9 yards per carry) and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with less than a minute left on the clock.

Ont the defensive side of the ball, Paul Posluszny ended up with 11 tackles (eight unassited), Chris Harrell had 10 takedowns (seven unassisted), and Dan Connor and Tamba Hali both had nine each.

With Penn State up by four points and 53 ticks left of the clock Chad Henne completed three consecutive passes for 26 yards. Mike Hart rumbled to an 11-yard pickup and a first down.

Finally, on 4th down and four yards to go, with one second left, Henne hit Mario Manningham on a post for the game-winning touchdown.
