Travis McBride, a running back/defensive back from McKeesport (Pa.) High, became the 10th athlete to commit to Penn State for its Class of 2006. He did so two days after his team won the PIAA AAAA championship.

"He called me [yesterday] and said he wanted to go to Penn State," McKeesport coach George Smith told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I told him, 'Travis, you haven't even visited anywhere yet.' But he told me, 'I don't care. I want to play for Penn State.'

"So I just said, 'That's fine with me. Congratulations.' "

As a senior at McKeesport, McBride rushed for 1,638 yards on 149 carries. He also had offers from Iowa, North Carolina State and West Virginia.

McBride reports that he is fully qualified for freshman eligibility.
