|School:||Mount Carmel Area High School, Mount Carmel, PA|
Last season, Mount Carmel's Dave Shinskie completed 111 of 203 passes for 1,815 yards and 16 touchdowns. He threw only 6 interceptions.
Shinskie already has an offer from Iowa with more sure to follow. He listed "Virginia, Penn State, Michigan State and Georgia Tech" as some other schools showing a lot of interest in him.
"Those are the ones off the top of my head that just came to see me," Dave said. "There were a lot of schools in, but they are the big ones, the ones I'm interested in."
Those 5 teams are currently his favorites. Vanderbilt was also in to see him recently.
Shinskie took a 2-day visit down to Virginia earlier this year. He attended a Penn State junior day on February 16.
"I also went to the Penn State Blue-White game. It was pretty fun. It was neat to see them go up against one another. I know a couple of guys at Penn State and it was just neat to see the second and third strings play, to see who can really play. It's exciting to think that maybe I'll be there when I'm a freshman playing. They get 56-60,000 people there."
He did not attend the Nike Camp at Penn State due to a baseball commitment.
Coach Dick Anderson is recruiting Dave for Penn State. Shinskie grew up liking Penn State and considers the Nittany Lions his favorite team at this point. He attended the Indiana and Miami games at Beaver Stadium last year.
Has he received many calls from coaches this month?
"I was only able to talk to one coach so far and that was Coach Anderson. I'm supposed to get a call tonight from the Georgia Tech coach."
Iowa and Michigan State also called, but were not able to get in touch with him.
Coach Anderson expressed to Dave that Penn State is very interested in him.
"He called me the first week in May, around May 2. They told me that they have 3 or 4 quarterbacks on the list that they are really looking at and that I'm one of them. He also said that they'll probably end up offering 1 or 2 quarterbacks, they're not sure yet, at the end of the summer or something like that."
Dave is also a very talented baseball player. He pitches for Mount Carmel and possesses a 93-94 mph fastball and an impressive slider.
"I like playing football better. Maybe if I get drafted as a pitcher in the first couple rounds I'll go play baseball, but I really have my mind set on playing football in college."
Shinskie camped at Purdue last year and will attend camps at "Virginia, Penn State and possibly Iowa" this summer.
