Brent Carter, a talented 6-foot-2, 200-pound, running back from Pottsgrove High in Pottstown, Pa., has rescinded his pledge to Virginia and committed to Penn State, according to a source close to the prospect. Carter just announced for the Cavaliers Jan. 25 but obviouly was not comfortable with the fit. He'll make an announcement on this topic Monday.
The Scout.com three-star prospect now gives the Nittany Lions two running backs pledges in this class (along with Evan Royster) and adds much-needed depth behind veterans Tony Hunt, Austin Scott and Rodney Kinlaw
Carter was one of the last remaining recruits the Nittany Lions were pursuing. Signing day is Wednesday, and sources say Vidal Hazelton, the star receiver who committed to USC in late December but has since admitted to having second thoughts, is the only player left on State's big board.
Other players who commited elsewhere before landing with the Lions include QB Pat Devlin (Miami), LB Bani Gbadyu (LSU), S Cedric Jeffries (Virginia) and OL Antonio Logan-El (Maryland).
