Penn State's running game suffered another off-season setback, the extent of which remains to be seen, when running back Austin Scott sustained a knee injury at the end of Wednesday's scrimmage. Get the details on how the back was injured and what the running back position looks like with Scott sidelined.

Wednesday the Nittany Lions sustained another blow to the running back position when senior back Austin Scott went down with a knee injury. According to observers the injury occured near the end of the team's scrimmage on a goal-line play.

Scott was carrying the ball on a touchdown attempt when he hurdled a defender who was on the turf. During the jump he was hit in mid-air, which pushed him back at a sharp angle when his feet met the ground. A second defender grabbed his leg to make the stop.

According to observers around the end zone, the hit didn't look bad at first, but he did not get up immediately. "It really didn't look like that bad of a hit," an observer explained. "The grab seemed to twist his knee a bit, though."

The extent of the injury remains to be seen, however Scott is expected to be sidelined for at least the near future and is likely to miss the Blue-White Game April 22.

With Tony Hunt (ankle), Austin Scott (knee) and Nick Pincheck (hamstring) all sidelined with injuries, the running back position must look to Rodney Kinlaw and Matt Hahn to carry the load through the remainder of spring practice. Hunt has seen action this spring, but in very limited fashion in order to facilitate his recovery.

Scott, who will be a true senior next fall, has a redshirt year available. He missed most of spring practice in 2005 with an ankle injury. -30-
