When players leave the Penn State football team in the preseason, it is often the result of a knee-jerk reaction. But that's not the case with redshirt sophomore Wyatt Bowman. In this instance, it was actually a knee-injury reaction.

Wyatt Bowman, an offensive lineman from Mill Hall, Pa., has elected to not return to the Penn State football team for the 2006 season due to lingering problems with his left knee. As he explained to FOS, β€œIt wasn't something I wanted to do. I have had multiple knee surgeries on it and for the most part it's bone on bone, which has brought a lot of pain and swelling.”

Bowman was competing for the backup left tackle position this pre-season (behind Levi Brown), but felt hampered by the knee, saying, β€œI didn't feel I could perform the way I needed to anymore.”

A member of the Class of 2004, the 6-foot-5, 325-pound lineman is expected to remain at Penn State to finish his degree, but will no longer count against the 85-man scholarship limit for Penn State.
