Butler Snags FOS POG Honor

Heading into the Northwestern contest fans across the Nittany Nation were asking where Penn State leading receiver in 2005, Deon Butler, had been through the early goings of 2006. Well, Butler made a happy return to the forefront of the passing game Saturday with a record-setting performance.

Through the first four games of the season Deon Butler pulled in eight receptions for 112 yards. The redshirt sophomore nearly doubled that number in the Northwestern game for Penn State football's air attack.

With 216 yards on 11 receptions, Deon Butler set a new PSU single game record for receiving yards, eclipsing O.J. McDuffie's all time mark of 212 set in 1992 against Boston College.

Butler won the Player of the Game honor in a landslide with just over 77 percent of the fan vote. Here is how the Player of the Game voting ended up:

Tony Hunt: 12.3%
Deon Butler: 77.3%
Anthony Morelli: 2.9%
Paul Posluszny: 3.3%
Kevin Kelly: 4.1%

Akron: Dan Connor (13 tackles and two sacks)
Notre Dame: Jordan Norwood (six catches for 92 yards)
Youngstown State: Tony Hunt (18 carries for 143 yards and one TD)
Ohio State: Tony Hunt (24 carries for 135 yards)
