'Bama Verbal Looking at Lions

Nick Gentry

The Hoover-Prattville game was considered as one of the best match-ups of the decade in a 6A state championship game. The results painted a different picture as the Lions dominated the Bucs in a 35-21 victory. Alabama verbal commitment Nick Gentry talks about the game and his consideration of other schools like Penn State.

"It feels like a dream come true,"said Nick Gentry from Prattville, (Ala.). "They played a heck of a game. People always said we were the better team, but they also say teams down in the south aren't that great. We had to come out and prove them wrong."

The Prattville defense rattled Hoover quarterback Ross Wilson most of the night. Wilson did take a vicious hit on one scramble and sat out the next two series. The Lions came to Birmingham on a mission, and coach Bill Clark had his team focused and ready to play.

"We had a couple missed assignments on some of our blitzes that resulted in big plays that they scored on," Gentry said. "Besides that our defense did a heck of a job. It's a very young defense, and I look forward to seeing them in this game next year. They will probably win it again."

"It feels great to win the state championship, and now I have to go win a national championship in college."

Gentry kept a low profile througout the season as his focus was directed on a state championship. The Tide verbal commitment is paying close attention to the events in Tuscaloosa.

"I have talked to a few of the coaches," he said. "Right now I am a soft verbal commitment. I am still looking around. I don't know if that is where I want to play especially with the coaching change."

"The schools I am looking at are Alabama, Louisville, Florida State and Penn State. I have set up all my visits. They are in December and January. I am not exactly sure the dates."

Gentry recorded 1.5 sacks in the Class 6A state championship game. He finished his senior season with 16 sacks and 54 tackles.
