Penn State junior forward Geary Claxton claimed this week's Big Ten Player of the Week honor for his career-high 31 point performance in PSU's 129-111 victory over VMI last week.
The Nittany Lions set the Big Ten record for points in a game, a 41-year-old conference record. Penn State beating the old mark of 128 set by Michigan in a win over Purdue on February 19, 1966.
Claxton, a West Haven, Connecticut native, shot 12-of-18 from the field (.667) and added 11 rebounds for his conference-best fourth double-double of the season. With his 31-point performance, the senior forward became the 27th Nittany Lion player in program's history to reach 1,000 career points.
This is Claxton's second weekly Big Ten honor. Previously he was also honored on November 15, 2004.
