Rochester, Pa., wide receiver Derek Moye has had a great month. He was recently selected to represent his home state in the Big 33 Classic. And today the 6-foot-5, 180-pounder made his college decision known, as he chose between two Pennsylvania schools.

It came down to Penn State and Pitt in this one, and in a tilt that went to the wire the four-star recruit cast his lot with the Nittany Lions.

“I committed to Penn State when Coach [Joe] Paterno visited me [Wednesday],” Derek Moye said. “Penn State just felt like the best place for me with the environment and the school, and the campus just fit my personality better.”

Moye (pronounced MOY) favored the Nittany Lions all month but Pitt remained a close second until earlier this week.

“I felt like I was leaning toward Penn State but it wasn't a huge lean,” Moye said. “I was still looking at Pitt. But a few days ago I sat down with my family and my coach and decided to go to Penn State.

“I committed to Coach Paterno when he visited and he seemed pretty happy,” Moye said. “He said that I will have a chance to earn playing time as a freshman, but it will all come down to how hard I work at things and whether I prove that I can play.”

Moye is planning on enrolling at Penn State for the summer semester, but a little later than some of the other incoming freshmen.

“I probably won't start at Penn State until the beginning part of July,” Moye said. “I am not sure when the exact date is.”

Moye is the 19th commitment for Penn State's Class of 2007.. His announcement came one day after the Nittany Lions landed standout defensive end Devon Still from Delaware.
