In recent years Penn State has managed to add some impressive chapters to the already storied tradition of Linebacker U. The Nittany Lions are looking to Mike Yancich to help possibly continue that tradition. This coming Tuesday Yancich is expected to announce his college decision publicly.
The four-star athlete is also ranked the No. 8 weakside linebacker in the country by Scout. If he elects to join the Nittany Lions he would be PSU's third pledge to the Class of 2008 and join four-star offensive lineman Matt Stankiewitch and Michael Zordich, the No. 13 middle linebacker in the country, according to Scout.
This past weekend Yancich joined his Trinity High School in team at Pitt's passing camp. There his squad won two games on Saturday, but ended up losing to Central Catholic twice. During his time on at Pitt for the event the Panther coaches coaches made a final effort to get his commitment to join their class.
As a junior, Yancich pulled down 117 tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and four sacks. His efforts earned him first team All-Conference honors by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
He was also named to Scout's Pittsburgh All-Combine Team this past May for posting a 4.50 second forty-yard dash, a 4.15 second shuttle run, a 7.02 second 3-cone drill, a 33 inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-3 standing broad jump.
With upwards of 20 offers from programs like Boston College, Virginia, Arizona, Georgia Tech, Syracuse and UConn, his decision is likely to come down to West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Penn State.
