Veteran Penn State coach was released early Thursday evening and is expected to travel Friday.

Penn State football coach Joe Paterno was hospitalized Thursday morning.

The 81-year-old was taken from the Lasch Football Building via ambulance to Mount Nittany Medical Center. According to team spokesman Guido D'Elia, a battery of tests revealed Paterno to be dehydrated.

"It is nothing serious," D'Elia said. "He was scheduled to travel to Austin (Texas) for an event Friday, and still intends to go."

D'Elia added that he expected Paterno to be released from the hospital late Thursday afternoon. According to the Centre Daily Times, Paterno was back at his home by early evening Thursday.

This has been a busy travel time for Paterno. He spent most of last weekend at alumni functions in the Philadelphia area before returning to State College Saturday night.

After taking care of some recruiting work Sunday, on Monday he left for the Big Ten coaches' meetings in Chicago. He returned to State College Wednesday night.

Paterno is traveling to Austin to take part in an event honoring Texas coach Mack Brown. PSU athletic director Tim Curley is already in Austin for the event.
