FOS POLL: Money Matters
Penn State Money Graphic

How is the economy impacting the way you follow the Penn State football team? We're looking for opinions on a series of questions, with results to be published online and in Fight On State The Magazine.

The recent downturn in the economy and increases in travel costs are hitting everyone in the pocketbook, including Penn State football fans. Heading into the 2008 season, though, there has yet to be a noticeable change in the amount of cash Nittany Lion backers are willing to spend to follow their team.

Though the level of Nittany Lion Club points required to purchase season tickets increased again this year, ticket renewals came in at an eye-popping 99 percent.

Single-game tickets were made available for three homes games — Coastal Carolina, Temple and Indiana — and they sold out in a matter of hours.

Beaver Stadium is now the largest stadium in the nation, with a capacity of 107,282. For all practical purposes, every ticket for all seven home games has already been sold. The only way more will become available is if opponents don't sell their allotment and ship them back to Happy Valley.

It is truly amazing stuff in an era when consumer spending is down in practically every area.

However, we're wondering if this is too good to last for Penn State; if at some point in the coming months there will be indications that fans are spending less money to follow their beloved team.

So we are giving people a chance to chime in on a variety of questions on the topic, and we will publish the results here at FightOnState.com and in the next issue of Fight On State The Magazine.
