Busy Time For Illinois OL

Bart Miller enjoyed his recent trip to Penn State. How interested is the Nittany Lion coaching staff in the talented offensive lineman from Illinois?

Name: Bart Miller
Position: OL
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 295 pounds
40-yard dash:

5.28

School: Elk Grove HS, Elk Grove Village, IL

"I started as a sophomore on the defensive line and then my junior and senior years I played offensive tackle," Bart said.  "I played situationally on defense, like run-stopping situations.

"I got All-Conference (1st Team) this year and last year.  I got Daily Herald 1st Team All-Area and The Pioneer Press 1st Team All-Area.  I got named to the All-State team as Honorable Mention by the Coaches Association."

Miller currently has three scholarship offers.

"I have one from Northern Iowa and I have offers from Air Force and Navy.  There are a number of other schools that I'm talking to right now and they could go either way.  Those are Penn State, Duke, Bowling Green, Western and Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Nebraska."

He has taken a number of unofficial visits this year, but only one official visit so far.

"I went to Duke last weekend and that's actually the only [official visit] I've set so far.  It went really well.  I liked their campus.  Their facilities and their program are definitely on the rise.  We got to watch Duke play Michigan, so that was pretty special.

"I've taken unofficial visits to Wisconsin, Nebraska, Penn State, Bowling Green, Michigan State and Western Michigan.  I think that's about it this year.  I visited Iowa and Northern Illinois my junior year."

Bart took an unofficial visit to Happy Valley last month and got the chance to attend a Penn State home game and watch the Nittany Lions handily defeat Michigan State.

"I love Penn State.  That was a great experience.  They have tremendous facilities and a tremendous program.  The discipline and tradition there is unbelievable.  I really enjoyed Penn State.

"That was the game Larry Johnson went over 2,000 yards.  It was pretty electrifying.  It was very loud, very packed, and just a great college football experience.

"Their line pretty much dominated and I kind of like their style of offense.  I spoke with both of their line coaches (Dick Anderson and Bill Kenney) as well as the guy that is recruiting my area (Ron Vanderlinden).  They're very classy and I really enjoyed speaking with them.  It was a very good visit.

"We made a weekend out of it, saw the campus a little bit on Sunday and kind of had a one-on-one with Coach Ron Vanderlinden.  He showed us the campus and showed us the facilities.

"They've actually been with me since my junior year.  They were one of the first ones and they stayed with me the whole time.  They came up in May and they've called pretty much every week.  They stopped by my school another time but I wasn't there.

"I've been very impressed by them and their recruiting process.  Sometimes the recruiting process is kind of ugly.  I've been finding that out first hand now and it's good to see some schools keeping some character involved there.

"I'd have to say they are my favorite right now, but that whole bunch I mentioned before is right up there too.  All those guys aren't far behind.

"With Penn State, it's a little bit of a waiting game now.  They have 6 scholarships out for 3 guys.  They told my dad that most of those guys are blue-chips and there are a couple of other schools they're looking at, so it'll be kind of a waiting game to see who commits elsewhere and who goes to Penn State and then I think I'm right up there next in line.

"They're taking 5 [offensive linemen] and, if I'm not mistaken, they have 2 commitments already."

Dan Mazan is the only offensive line prospect that has publicly committed to Penn State thus far.  The 2 commitments could be grayshirts (click Recruiting 101 article for definition of grayshirt) Chris Auletta and Lee Lispi.

Bart is fully qualified and has scored a 24 on the ACT.
