Hungry for some NCAA football action?
It may be the middle of winter, but if you are looking to get your Penn State football fix, you can do so at Damon's in State College Sunday at 3 p.m. (or after the Nittany Lion basketball game vs. Northwestern at the Jordan Center ends).
There, the Penn State football chapter of Uplifting Athletes will hold its second annual Video Game Challenge to help call attention to Global Rare Disease Day and to raise money for the fight against kidney cancer.
Eight different Penn State football players will participate in a tournament of EA Sports NCAA Football 2010 for the Xbox. The action will be shown on the huge screens in the downstairs Clubhouse at Damon's.
Once the dust clears from that tournament, the winner will then take part in an online tournament against the champs from similar local showdowns at Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Those will be shown on the big screens at Damon's, too.
Among the PSU players scheduled to compete are Devon Still (last year's champ), roommates and self-styled video game powers Derek Moye and Nick Sukay, as well as D'Anton Lynn, Brennan Coakley and James Terry.
But a host of their teammates will also be on hand to watch the action and cheer on (or heckle) the competitors. They will also mingle with fans.
Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance for $5 at http://upliftingathletes.org/vgc. Tickets will also be sold at the door on a first-come, first-served basis at a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for students and children.
All proceeds go to the Kidney Cancer Association.
