Lions Add Class of 2011 Pledge

Rumblings about a Penn State commitment on Fight On State's Total Access Board were crystallized by To the surprise of nobody, the defensive lineman announced for the Nittany Lions.

With offers from North Carolina State, South Carolina, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Rice and Temple, TE/DE prospect Shawn Oakman opted to become Penn State's second Class of 2011 member.

Oakman pointed to the PSU coaches, and specifically Larry Johnson and Ron Vanderlinden, as a major reason for his pledge to PSU. Previously he told, "I love the coaching staff (at Penn State). They are very family-oriented there. They also have good tradition and history."

Oakman finished his junior season with 136 tackles, 17 sacks and four fumbles caused. Offensively, he had 20 catches for four touchdowns. He also plays forward and averages 10 points and 10 rebounds per game in hoops.
