Patrick Akerman on Penn State visit
Posted Sep 5, 2010

Patrick Ackerman, a 6-11 center from Massachusetts, was on campus for a visit this weekend.

Patrick Ackerman, a 6-foot-11, 215-pound center from Worcester (Mass.) Academy, took a visit to Penn State over the weekend.

He checked out the Nittany Lions' facilities, toured campus and attended the PSU-Youngstown State football game at Beaver Stadium.

He headed for the airport Sunday morning for the trip back to New England. But, according to sources, before taking off, Ackerman committed to Penn State coach Ed DeChellis.

Ackerman is considered a skilled big man who must add a bit of bulk to be able to contend at the major-college level. He is a natural shot-blocker, something the Lions have been sorely missing of late.

Earlier this year, he was ranked among the top 20 senior-to-be prospects in his region, according to the New England Recruiting Report. And that was before he did well on the summer AAU circuit.

Ackerman was named to the All-Tournament Team at the GymRat Challenge in Albany, N.Y.

He is the third player to commit for the class that will enroll in 2011, joining Wilkes-Barre, Pa., center Peter Alexis and Garfield Heights, Ohio guard Trey Lewis.
