There seems to be a perpetual debate among fans as to the accuracy and role of recruit rankings. So, we thought it made sense to go through the first round selections of the 2006 NFL Draft to see where the NFL selected prospects were ranked out of high school. Take a look.

The following chart breaks down the first round selections. The final column indicates the number of recruiting stars Scout provided the prospect out of high school.

There are some prospects who's high school recruiting information is not available in the Scout database, these prospects are signifide by "NA" in the star column. However, a majority of the first round selections are covered.

Looking at the first round selections' star rating, their average number of stars out of high school was 3.4 stars. The first round draft class included:

5-Stars: 6

4-Stars: 9

3-Stars: 3

2-Stars: 1

1-Star: 5

Of the first round selections who were ranked by Scout 63 percent were rated as 5-star or 4-star prospects out of high school by Scout. If you toss in the 3-star prospects that percentage increases to 75 percent.

In terms of 1-star and 2-star players, these ranking groups represented 21 percent of the first round selections.

Among the top ten picks the average star rating was 4.1 stars and included:
